It is located on the Fragrant Flower Mound in Baohe Park. Built for the first time in 1066 AD, the temple is the primal model in memory of Bao Zheng both at home and abroad. The existing Bao Gong Temple was reconstructed with the money donated by Li Hong Zhang, the governor-general of Zhili (now Hebei) in the 8th year (1882 AD) of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. In 1961, it was proclaimed to be a key cultural relic site under the protection of Anhui Provincial Government.
It is located in the northeastern part of the old town area. It used to be a battlefield during the period of the Three Kingdoms. In 215 AD, the brave general Zhang Liao, who led a crack troop of 7,000 cavalry, defeated an army of 100,000 men from the Wu Kingdom. The king of the Wu Kingdom spurred his horse to fly over a broken bridge at the western ferry and fled. There is a vivid description about this battle in Chapter 67 of the novel " The Romance of the Three Kingdoms"---"Cao Cao conquers Hangzhong; Zhangliao Prevails at Xiaoyao Ford."
It is located at the crossroads between the Huangshan and Hezuohua Roads, covering an area of 16,710m2. The house is regarded as a modern comprehensive building for the popularization of science and technology. "Yang Zhenglin Exhibition Hall" is set up inside, which is stored with more than 140 pieces (sets) of exhibits. The special exhibits include: a full-vision cinema, a celestial phenomena house, an earthquake-simulation house, rolling balls, etc.
USTC is a key comprehensive university in China attached to the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1958, it was founded in Beijing and was moved to Hefei in 1970. The first postgraduate school in China was set up here, and the first juvenile class known both at home and abroad was initiated by the school, by which it is hoped that some new ways can be explored to develop the supernormal education. The National Synchronization Radiation Laboratory is the only scientific project of significance constructed by the state within a university. The National Key Laboratory of Fire Science and many other key institutions of scientific research are set up in the university. More than 130 academicians of ¡°the Chinese Academy of Sciences¡±, and ¡°the Chinese Academy of Engineering¡±, and other national leading scientists have worked and taught here. The school enjoys a beautiful environment and is a great attraction to scholars and tourists in the country.
Li Hongzhang, who styled himself Shao Quan, was born in Hefei in 1823. His highest official title was governor-general of Zhili (now Hebei province) and Northern Minister concurrently. He held key posts for forty years, traveling far and wide across East Asia and West Europe. He was in charge of both the domestic affairs and foreign affairs of the Qing Dynasty. He founded the Huai Army and initiated the Westernization Movement. He was referred to as ¡°the first man to advocate the open-door policy in China.¡± His former residence is located on the Huaihe Road (the mid-section) of Hefei. The entire building looks magnificent with carved beams and rafters. It is the largest existing and best preserved former residence of a VIP in Hefei. It is a key cultural relic site under the protection of Anhui provincial government.
Lying in the southeastern suburbs of Hefei, the Chaohu is one of the five greatest freshwater lakes in China, covering an area of 782 square kilometers. It is a famous tourist attraction in mid Anhui province. With white sails dotting the vast expanse of mist-covered waters, the lake looks like a huge brilliant pearl set in between the Changjiang and Huaihe Rivers. In the middle of lake, there are two islands named Gushan Hill and Mushan Hill respectively. On all sides of the lake, there are many scenic spots such as the five limestone caves---the Xianren, Ziwei, Wangqiao, Huayang and Boshan as well as the three hot springs---the Bantang, Xiangquan and Tangchi, and five state-level forest parks---the Taihu, Jilong, Yefu, Tianjing, and Zipeng mountains. These natural spectacles dot the lakeside areas like stars crowding round the moon, which constitutes a three-dimensional exquisite painting of mountains and waters.
At 8.7km long, the park covers an area of 137.6 hectares. It embraces the old town while merging into the new urban developments. The green trees and blue water look like a green ribbon, and thus entitled as "a necklace of jadeite." Compared with parks of the same category in the country, the Belt Park boasts the most complete ring and greatest quantity of vegetation.
It is located in Feixi county, 35km from Hefei. There is a dense forest full of auspicious birds. The well-known Xilu Temple, and the sculptures of 500 arhats, and many other sites of historical interest are scattered all over the mountain.
